Introduction: For inspiration, this was written while listening to “For The Longest Time” by Billy Joel.
Like a quick snap
Stuck snug betwixt
My serious side &
Softer wide eyed
inner-child-
That radio buzzes
Out old beats
Humming along
the old&new me
That Silly, Billy (Joel)
It’s been too long
His piano, no doubt
Sings to my Black&White
With a lemon twist
Like a pinch to cheeks
& colorsplashofsun
Not just this half or
The other, together
Yes, better to write as one

& colorsplashofsun…nice… billy joel is cool and i love where the old songs can take us sometimes..connecting things…
Blending the new & old
Gretchen! This was fantastic…and what an inspiration! so many memories come to mind at the mention of Piano Man…he’s an important part of my soundtrack…this reminds me why π Loved it!
Thank-you! That song is so soothing for me. Brings me back. π
ha…what a fun rhythm to this…makes me think of days sitting in my room with the radio on, maybe a friend hanging out…just listening to the tunes as the feet start to move…socked feet on slick floors…smiles…
Yes! Exactly. (Same for me,but sitting alone though)
Like the snappy words, Billy Joel’s songs are an inspiration ~ I find that when we listen to music, somehow their words creep up on our writing ~
Hey, I love your sound! Really great rhythm and rhyme, especially in the first half. Made me want to snap and bounce my head.
Glad you enjoyed it! π
I love Billy Joel… haven’t listened to him in awhile, though. This was a delightful read, Gretchen.
Oh, Billy Joel wrote some really good songs – and they are in the quieter part of the soundtrack to my life too. Nicely paced writing, Gretchen
Thank-you Tony!
Very nicely done, full of sweet images. And a useful application of the radio – music!
Super cool poem. k.
I watch the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_XgQhMPeEQ)
and read your poem together — great combo!
Thanx
Your poem puts its finger on how our memories walk with us, and music is always there somewhere, like a fragrance, or a twist of lemon in your drink, to enhance them, and our selves. Enjoyed the Billy Joel, too–He’s written so many of my faves, I’d almost forgotten that one. Thanks for the reminder.
I love how rhythmic it is. I can feel the music behind the words, upbeat and true.
Sweet poem, full of imagery for me…and other music (earlier) π but alone…yes….
great response. Wow, completely forgot all about Billy Joel, whatever happened to him? really like the pinch to cheeks and colorsplashofsun. Nice read. Thanks
This reads like a really good blues song, I enjoyed it very much.
Thank-you! I love those old photos that are black and white and you change one color back to show up and only that color and for some reason when I wrote this- that kept popping into my head. π
