Old Sun – A Poem

With steady strokes
Sweeping soft sunlight
Risen above –
a pencil thin –
Charcoal horizon
Ever. So. Slowly – I open
Those emerald eyes
To see – an old sun – set
Like a bittersweet dream
Closing them tight again
I choose to believe
In what lies ahead – –
And embrace peace.

Gretchen Leary 2013

Note to reader: It’s amazing where we find inspiration. This one came from me simply rubbing my eye with my thumb and staring at the gold glitter eye shadow and eye liner that smudged off.
